Copper ear spools, such as these taken from Tremper Mound, are part of the Hopewell Culture artifact assemblage, and have also been found in the excavation of the Hopewell Earthworks in Ross County, Ohio. Copper is a non-native material to the Scioto River Valley, demonstrating the existence of extended trading networks within the Hopewell Interaction Sphere.
