Wolfden Lake & CCC Camp Gordon

Camp Gordon was one of seven Civilian Conservation Corps camps that were established in the Shawnee State Forest, beginning in 1933. Located in the Headwaters of Turkey Creek on State Route 125, Camp Gordon would be home to first, an all-white company of enrollees and then an all-black and all World War I veterans unit.

The enrollees of Camp Gordon built nearby Wolfden Lake, one of the more picturesque CCC-built reservoirs in Shawnee Forest. They also joined enrollees from Camp Roosevelt to help build and develop the site of Roosevelt Lake, what became Shawnee State Park.

Today, passing vehicles on State Route 125 can catch a glimpse of the ruins of the Officers' Quarters, a stone chimney, which has come to be mistaken for the ruins of an old abandoned homestead.
